Hackney has a deep musical history.
We have been part of it for decades.
In association with Hackney History Festival, we are opening our doors for a live podcast exploring the story of The Premises Studios, an East London institution and a cafe that has supported London’s working music community for forty years.
We have been a place for writing, rehearsing and recording.
A space shaped by the artists who have passed through, from Nina Simone to Radiohead and from Blur to Ezra Collective.
At the centre of our story is Viv Broughton.
Join us as Jeremy Newton sits down with Viv, musician, journalist, author,
and owner of The Premises.
As a musician he played with David Bowie.
As a journalist he co-founded The Voice.
As an author he wrote Too Close To Heaven, a seminal history of gospel music.
And as CEO of The Premises, he has guided us through decades of social, political and economic change to become one of London’s most cherished working studios and multi-purpose creative spaces.
Wed 6th May 2026 3:00 to 5:00 PM
